I graduated from the University of Houston-Downtown with a B.S. Biotechnology. My undergraduate research background includes working in a biopolymer and protein structure lab at the University of Gdańsk (Poland) as well as working at UHD under Dr. Philip Lyons studying the fungal laccase enzyme. My current research focuses on mesothelium derived vascular progenitors and their utility in tissue regeneration and development in coelomic organs, in particular cardiac regeneration after myocardial ischemia or infarction. Using pluripotent stem cells, we are studying the developmental context and molecular mechanisms and aim to develop a suitable cell-based therapy as well as disease models for diseases rooted in the mesothelium.
